Dipa Karmakar, an Indian gymnast, will begin training in a national camp preparing for the 2021 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships from Abhishek Shukla's blog

Dipa Karmakar of Tripura, India, is preparing to compete in the national camp in Delhi from September 8 to October 17.

Although the 28-year-old almost lost out on the bronze medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics, her achievements spurred optimism for an Indian sport that is largely unknown. Regrettably, she was unable to compete in the Tokyo Olympics 2021 due to the suspension of qualifying events in response to the coronavirus epidemic.

The Agartala gymnast is ready to resume competition with her teammates. For the first time in the history of Indian gymnastics, up to four gymnasts from Tripura will compete.

The camp will include 16 participants who will train under the direction of coach Bishweshwar Nandi.

Tripura's chief minister congratulates dipa and others before the camp

Dipa Karmakar's accomplishments on the international stage have raised the standard and inspired millions of Indians to pursue careers in Gymnastics.

Tripura Chief Minister (CM) Biplab Kumar Deb felicitated all four state gymnasts who would participate in the national camp, including Dipa Karmakar, Asmita Paul, Priyanka Dasgupta, and Prathista Samanta, in his office on Monday. Deb also recognized coach Bishweshwar Nandi.

The Chief Minister wished the gymnasts well and praised Dipa Karmakar for motivating the state's other gymnasts.

How would the national camp benefit gymnasts

The national camp will prepare for upcoming events such as the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships, Asian Championships, and the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Their results in the national camp will also be used to choose who will compete at the 2021 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, which will be held in Kitakyushu, Japan, from October 18-24.
