Candace Parker was recently featured on the cover of NBA2K22. Lisa Leslie, her former Los Angeles Sparks mentor and Nba 2k22 Mt teammate was the person who paved the way for Parker's appearance in Backyard Basketball 2001. In this article, we'll look at how Leslie's inclusion contributed and how Parker's becoming the center of attention is contributing to a cycle of increased exposure.

Candace Parker was chosen to play the role of NBA2K22. This marks the first time a female basketball player has received this honor. Her Los Angeles Sparks mentor Lisa Leslie was the one who opened the way for women to participate in basketball video games. Prior to PlayStation 5, 4 and 3, when NBA2K2 was being released, Leslie appeared in Humungous Entertainment's Backyard Basketball (2001).

While it was the Minnesota Timberwolves' Kevin Garnett who was featured on the cover of original Backyard Basketball, Leslie was prominent in the game and you could even play as her and Garnett.

Houston Comets stars Cynthia Cooper and Sheryl Swoopes both were absent from the 2001 WNBA season. Cooper who was twice named MVP, and four-time champion retired after the 2000 season. He returned in 2003. Swoopes was also part of four championships and was the league's most coveted MVP. However, she was unable return in 2001 due to her torn anterior cruciate ligament. Leslie was not the only one to win the MVP award in 2001 but she also took home the Finals MVP after helping the Sparks claim their first title in September. 1. Backyard Basketball was released one month later with Leslie the only female player in real life (Garnett was only a men's player).

Cooper and Swoopes are considered the first real faces of the WNBA However, it was Leslie who became the initial face of the league for the the kids Backyard Basketball was geared towards and included me.
