EA has released the ratings for the top 22 players in buy FIFA Coins for the second year in a row. And, as is customary, they've sparked a spirited debate.

There are a few surprises in this group, but let's start at the top with Cristiano Ronaldo, who has had his overall score reduced by one point.

That means that, according to FIFA, Ronaldo has been out of the top two best players in the world for what seems like an eternity. Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski, who has an overall rating of 92 after receiving a rating of 91 last season, has been named as his replacement, which some will argue is deserved. According to FIFA, Messi is still the best player on the planet, with a rating of 93.

Is Cristiano Ronaldo's downgrading justified? The 36-year-old isn't getting any younger, of course, but anyone who saw him make his second Manchester United debut at the weekend will know he's still capable of performing at a high standard.

Perhaps the most contentious downgrade is that suffered by Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, who sees his overall rating drop from 90 to 89 by a single point. Salah was arguably Liverpool's best player last season, almost single-handedly propelling the club into the top four of the Premier League. I've already seen fans scratching their heads at this one. And he's off to a great start this season. Is he a worse person now than he was before?

As a Chelsea supporter, I'm thrilled to see the indomitable N'Golo Kanté in the top 22 with a 90 rating, an increase from his previous year's 88. This award is well-deserved for a player who was named man of the match in both the second leg and final of the Champions League semi-finals. If Romelu Lukaku had been selected after his title-winning season with Inter and his ongoing exploits for his country and new club, I would have been overjoyed. Is he worse than Real Madrid's Karim Benzema in terms of quality? I believe he is superior, but then I would. The only English player in the top 22 is Tottenham Hotspur and England captain Harry Kane, who moves up from position 88 to position 90.
